Description:

Acidifier. Phosphoric acid makes food more durable by protecting it from being destroyed by, among other things, oxygen in the air.

Fun fact

The element phosphorus was accidentally discovered in 1669 by the German alchemist Henning Brand, who boiled 60 buckets of urine in search of a process to produce gold. What remained was a slightly greenish shining mass, which suddenly ignited itself and went up in flames. He called the substance »phosphorus«, after the Greek word for »light-carrying«.
