Description:

Mineral oil is a collective term for petroleum products that are made from crude oil, as opposed to oil of animal or vegetable origin. Mineral oil is used especially for lubricating oil. Previously, the word mineral oil was also used to describe crude oil.

Mineral oils block between 40 and 60 procent of the skin pores and form a layer or film over the skin. In high concentrations, they can clog the sebaceous ducts and cause acne, especially in those with oily/impure skin. Can be addictive in that the skin becomes dry and flaky if you stop applying the cream.

Mineral oil is considered food-safe and is commonly used for treating cutting boards and wooden utensils.
